From Out of Town
Cabbagetown Women's Clinic welcomes patients from across Canada. We see patients regularly from other provinces, from across Ontario, and from communities where local abortion care is limited or unavailable. If you are travelling to us for your care, you are not the exception. You are part of how this clinic has always worked.

Patients come to us for many reasons: for later-gestation surgical care that is not available in their home province, for same-day or next-day access when waiting is not an option, or because we are the closest independent abortion clinic that offers the care they need. Whatever brings you to us, we are glad to support your visit.

This page covers the practical information patients ask about most. If you have a question that is not answered here, please call us. We are happy to talk through your specific situation, and we will help you plan.
Booking from Outside Toronto
To book your appointment or to speak with our team about travelling to us, please contact the clinic. The sooner we can talk, the better we can support your visit.
Why Patients Travel to Us
Surgical abortion up to 24 weeks. We provide surgical abortion at the highest gestational age limit available outside of hospital in Ontario. Many provinces and many independent clinics across Canada do not offer care at this stage. For patients further along in pregnancy, this is often the reason they come to us.

Same-day and next-day appointments. When you have made your decision, waiting can be the hardest part. We offer same-day and next-day appointments whenever possible, even for patients travelling from outside the city.

No referral required. You do not need a physician's referral to book with us. You can call us directly, from anywhere in Canada.

Experienced, trauma-informed care. Our all-female nursing team has 87 cumulative years of experience in abortion care, and our female physician brings over 6 years of exclusive abortion experience. For patients who have travelled significant distances, knowing they are in experienced, compassionate hands matters.

24-hour access to our medical team. Once you are our patient, you are not alone, even after you have returned home. Our on-call system means a member of our medical team is reachable directly, at any hour, for any urgent concerns.

Planning Your Visit from Outside Ontario
If you are travelling from another province, we encourage you to call us as early as possible in your planning. The sooner we can speak with you, the better we can support your visit and the more flexibility we have to accommodate your timing.
Here is what to know before you travel:
OHIP and out-of-province coverage. All of our services are covered under OHIP for patients with valid Ontario health coverage. If you are travelling from another province, you may be eligible for partial or full reimbursement through your home province's health plan, though this varies depending on your province and your specific situation. We are happy to provide documentation that supports a reimbursement claim, but we cannot guarantee what your home province will cover. You will be asked to pay for your service up front and go through the reimbursement in your home province.

If you do not have OHIP or any provincial coverage, please call us before you travel. We will walk you through what to expect for fees, what assisted funding may be available, and what to bring to your appointment. We do not turn patients away based on inability to pay without first exploring what support may be available.

If you are coming for later-gestation surgical care, plan for a multi-day visit. Our team will explain the timeline during your initial assessment so you can arrange accommodations and travel accordingly. Many patients travelling from outside Ontario for later-gestation care come to us because the same care is not available in their home province. Please read the online blog entitled, “Looking Forward to Meeting You” under, “Multi-day procedures” for more information.
